The new model of teaching and learning proposed by the European Space for Higher Education is based on a constructivist view of learning in which knowledge flows in many different directions in the class and in other spaces, such as virtual spaces. From this viewpoint, it is obvious that new information and communication technologies like virtual platforms are tools that can aid teaching-learning processes. The benefits of e-learning are widely debated in studies on the subject. Moodle and other virtual learning platforms have enabled universities to extend distance learning. The majority of universities are currently incorporating a non-attendance component into many of their courses by setting up virtual campuses. New learning environments are appearing which may differ in terms of commercial or non-commercial origin, design, access, etc, but which share common objectives and methodologies. They include devices for content creation and management, and mechanisms for synchronic and asynchronic communication. The success of these virtual learning systems or platforms will mainly depend on their use and acceptance by the students. 3 We present a study carried out at the University of Huelva with the aim of improving understanding of the reasons or motivational factors behind the students’ level of satisfaction with the Moodle platform, and an analysis of these motives. The TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) has been used and extended to perform this analysis. The TAM was proposed by Davis, Bagozzi and Warshaw at the end of the 80s and has been used widely in the last two decades. It has become a secure and stable device for predicting user acceptance of a wide variety of new technologies. The results of our study show that it is necessary to reformulate the original structural model for certain variables although we acknowledge the important direct effect of other factors such as technical support on the perceived ease of use by students

    Get PDF
Background: The usage of intelligent personal assistants (IPA), such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant is increasing significantly, and voice-interaction is relevant for workflows in a business context. Objectives: This research aims to determine IPA characteristics to evaluate the usefulness of specific functions in a simulated production system of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. A new function called explanation-mode is introduced to the scientific community and business world. Methods/Approach: As part of a design science research, an artefact, i.e. an add-on for speech-interaction in business software, was developed and evaluated using a survey among ERP users and researchers. Results: In the area of IPA-features, the search-function and speech input for textual fields were recognised as most useful. The newly introduced feature, the explanation mode, was positively received too. There is no significant correlation between the usefulness of features and participant-characteristics, affinity to technology or previous experience with IPAs in a private context, which is in line with previous studies in the private environment leading to the conclusion that the task attraction is the most important element for usefulness. Conclusions: Most of the participants agreed that the speech-input is not able to fully substitute standard input devices, such as a keyboard or a mouse, so the IPA is recognised as an addition to traditional input methods. The usefulness is rated high especially for speech-input for long text fields, calling up masks and search-functions

The sharing economy is revolutionizing the way consumers use goods and services. In our study we modify and extend the expectation confirmation model to determine the motivational factors which drive the satisfaction and continue intention to use ridesharing services. Most importantly, we add social value as an additional factor to those previously studied in the literature. We apply our model in a survey among experienced Spanish users of BlaBlaCar. Service quality, perceived usefulness, trust and social value are determinants of satisfaction of experienced users and through it, of intention to continuance; while it is the case neither for environmental impact nor for economic benefits. Additionally, trust affects directly continuance. These results have relevant managerial implications, showing that users of some sharing services are motivated by other factors than purely economic

Moodle and other virtual teaching platforms have bolstered the ability and motivation of universities to support distance learning. The aim of our study is to improve understanding of the motivational factors behind student satisfaction, or dissatisfaction, with the Web-based learning platform, Moodle. Our study extends the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to include technical support and perceived self-efficacy, with the expectation that they influence usage of Moodle. We surveyed 226 students of the Business Administration and Management (LADE) and Infant and Primary School Teaching degree courses of the University of Huelva. The data showed that technical support has a direct effect on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Moodle usage was also directly influenced by perceived ease of use and attitude. The results reveal the importance of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness on attitude

Online social networks have revolutionized the way we communicate, and many companies are already taking full advantage of these tools to improve productivity. The objectives of our study are to measure the presence of large Spanish companies in these online social networks and the importance companies give to the use of such systems and to determine the link between the attitudes of companies towards technology and the adoption of online social networking in their businesses. To do this, we surveyed 99 Spanish companies whose turnover was among the highest in their respective economic sectors, and we carried out a descriptive analysis of the association of variables using the Chi-squared independence test. The results show that the presence of large Spanish companies in online social networks is scant, however, the results emphasize the importance that such enterprises give to information technology, information systems and a future presence on online social networks

    No full text
© The Author(s) 2019. Social network sites in general, and Facebook in particular, allow users with common interests to meet, share ideas, and collaborate, creating new forms of informal learning. In order to understand and eventually take advantage of the many benefits that Facebook can bring to the academic world, we need to study its adoption process. The objective of this article is to identify the factors that may motivate university students to adopt and use Facebook as an educational tool. We aim to contribute to the existing literature by adding a unique approach to examine this question, incorporating theories and constructs from the well-developed technology acceptance theory. According to our results, Performance Expectancy of Students is the most important factor on predicting the Behavioral Intention to Use Facebook for academic purposes, followed by Appropriateness for Academic Setting and Compatibility With Academic Work
